Not Every Season Produces a Harvest

Not Every Season Produces a Harvest

Genesis 8:22 22 “As long as the earth endures, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

At Church, during the sermon, our Pastor made the statement, “Not every season produces a harvest”. This simple, factual statement resonated with me in a profound way. It filled me with comfort, peace, and hope. Often we find ourselves in seasons of toil, trial, and tribulation. We pray for and desire a quick fix. Instant healing, fast cash, expedited spiritual growth, repaired relationships, obstacles removed, circumstances changed, prayers answered. In today’s microwave society of instant gratification, with most anything obtainable on the internet and through next day delivery, we expect instantaneous harvest of our prayers, our wants, needs, and desires.

The truth is, harvests are not instantaneous.  They do not come easy.  A bountiful harvest requires faithfulness, persistence, perseverance, toil, patience, time, and nurturing.    There is a season, a time for planting, for sowing.  A time to toil  and nurture what we sow, what we desire and hope for.  We must wait for the harvest.  We must be patient as we persevere in the waiting.  Don’t grow weary in the waiting.  The harvest will come, but in its perfect timing, if we tend to it during the season of toil and waiting.  Then when the harvest has come and gone, and we are full with plenty, there is a season of rest.  We have to be careful not to become complacent in that season, forgetting the glory and blessing of the harvest.

If you are struggling, in a dry patch, trying to overcome an obstacle, don’t lose sight of the coming harvest. In the meantime, prepare. Pray, read the word. Fellowship with other believers, be encouraged, spend time in worship. Your good seeds planted will yield a good crop. Have faith, be patient, persevere in the waiting, press in. Your harvest is coming. Just because you don’t see it now, doesn’t negate the truth. The truth is, that not every season produces a harvest, but the harvest will come. The Lord will redeem what you have sown in faith, what you have tended and nurtured. Your seeds will not return void. HE IS FAITHFUL.

Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

I share this to encourage you!  Do not let your trials leave you dry and barren.   Do not let  heartache and loss overcome you.  Do not walk  in defeat, in failure, in sorrow, and in fear.  If you have sown your seeds of repentance, prayer and hope, but the harvest hasn’t come in your timing, do not be discouraged, void of joy and consumed with hopelessness and despair. The harvest is coming! A bountiful harvest, in God’s timing, for His glory, and you will reap the fruits of that harvest. Be Love!
